Maggie Walker GS’ April Price and Atlee’s boys depth helped both teams win Tuesday afternoon’s dual meet at Maggie Walker’s Jim Holdren Track.
Price grabbed three wins, the 100- and 200-meter dash (nipping Godwin’s Nicole Ditto by .02 seconds) and ran the second leg of the Green Dragons’ winning 400 relay squad.
Price, also a standout forward on the soccer team, finished second in the long jump (15-9) and fifth in the high jump.
The Raiders had a plethora of gentlemen score high, including four of the top five triple jumpers, three of the top four long jumpers and three of the top four pole vaulters.
The races of the day were the girls and boys 800.
Mills Godwin’s Karis Crosby (2:25.75) held off a fast charging freshman in Maggie Walker’s Anna Spiers (2:25.78).
Two Raider teammates, Michael Saunders (1:59.68) and elite distance man Ben Dejarnette (1:59.71) were separated by the same margin with Saunders winning.
They went toe-to-toe down the straightaway before Saunders got the edge.
Patrick Henry was the fourth member of the meet and had nice performances from B.J. Moss (100 and 200 winner), Sarah Nuttycombe (long and triple jump winner, third in 100 hurdles), Theo Duncan (shot put winner, third in discus) and Gabby Charles (300 hurdles winner, 100 hurdles runner-up).
