North Wins, Starke MVP

Dazmond Starke rung up 21 points, 10 in the fourth quarter and overtime, as the North defeated the South 117-110 in the 804 All-Star Game Saturday night at Matoaca High School.

The Highland Springs big man earned DigitalSports Player of the Game honors.

“I was just planning on having fun,” Starke said. “I really wasn’t expecting to get MVP. I just wanted to come out here and play.”

Each player played extremely hard, making the 2008 version of the game the best ever.

The South trailed by as much as 17 points before rallying to tie the game on a Paul Finn (Meadowbrook) trey with 1:33 to go at 96.

Finn had a game-high 24 points, 12 in the fourth quarter.

After King William’s Isaiah Hill dunked on Prince George’s Andre Williamson for a 100-98 lead late, Finn scored right back with 31.5 to go to force OT.

Midlothian’s Graham Barnes put in five points to start overtime for the South, but the North went on a 17-5 run from there to put the game away.

Harry Lee Daniel (Highland Springs) scored 20 points, Wayne Whiting (Benedictine) had 19, Harvey Mills (HS) 18 and Adam Desgain (J.R. Tucker, Randolph-Macon) 13 to lead the North.

Williamson had 18 for the South, 11 in the first quarter and seven in the third period, Cosby’s Ben Jessee had 18, Petersburg’s Terneil Rhodes had 16 and Huguenot’s Mikyel Nero put in 11 to lead the South.
